January 2021 Transfer Window

I'm betting that it'll either be someone who we'll constantly justify the cost for or it'll be someone out of the blue from LeHarvre and everyone will be an expert on him apart from me :)

not just you, I'd heard of hardly any of the players we've signed since Fosun
 
I can't say I think it would be a great move personally. If it did happen, I'd obviously hope he can be a good addition and would give him a chance but whenever I have seen him in recent years since leaving Chelsea he's looked like a shadow of what he was like at his peak
 
I just can't see us going for him, rapidly declining + big wages + zero resale fee just isn't the way we roll. The only plus point would be he fills a position we need filling but would he be able to do what we'd want him to? I doubt it.

Think this is a unique situation though - we just want a temp for injury cover so think the wages and resale points are not so important in our thinking - that said, not sure Costa is the right temp.

The only thing that matters is ability. I have no idea if he’s any good or not, haven’t seen him since he left Chelsea.

As for financials, any likely signing is going to have no/little resale value or cost more up front if they’re younger.

If we pay him £150k p/w for 18 months (we won’t, his current ability can’t justify that outlay and he won’t get it anywhere else), that’s £12m.

Anyone of any note is going to be on at least £60kp/w. So on the same 18month contract you’ve only got £7m to play with. Can’t sign a lot/ anything for that these days.

And if Raul is coming back, and Silva is going to be better in 6-18 months then we won’t want anyone any longer than that anyway. Unless they can play another position.

So after all that rambling. If we pay him 100k for 18 months AND he actually of the required ability then it’s actually makes very good financial sense.

just haven't seen anything of him for years, others on here have seen him play in recent times and seem to suggest he's past his best so I'm not fussed. However if he's a target, I'd like to think Nuno knows whether he'd be worthwhile

Oh yes if Nuno has faith in him then that is fine, it's just he'll have now left two clubs under a cloud which I don't think bodes well for his character and as you say if he is past his best then...It just seems like people are hankering after Chelsea Costa and if that's not the case.

I saw that. A bit disappointed but Spiers has form for being completely off the mark.. To be honest if Wolves and Nuno are on the ball whoever is coming in should be all wrapped up and ready to announce at 9am tomorrow. We can all dream right?
 
I thought we’d have had a deal for Pepe from Gremio lined up, after he said he would only leave in this transfer window, but I’ve not seen any rumours.
 
How does Brexit play in all this. Will any non UK player now need a work permit and therefore have to pass the scoring system to get one and of course delay any transfer?

Yeah they need to pass the new scoring system. But it will be pretty much “automatic” for the ones who meet the criteria. Only for the ones that go to appeal will there be a delay.
