January 2020 transfer window

So to clarify, we desperately need more players but we should also chuck away a very highly regarded Academy product still in his teens unless he steps up immediately, despite hardly ever starting any games in his entire career to date.

Obviously not chuck him away, but I don't think we can particularly rely on him being impactful, particularly in a 343. I'm not even sure what he is tbh, maybe a number ten as he's technically proficient and seems like he's got good awareness, but that's not really a position in either of our formations. Hope he comes good like but I've never really seen what all the fuss was about when compared to people with similar experience that we've seen in recent years

I just find the attitude towards him bizarre. And this place is relatively mild in that sense.

There’s a very weird perception that he is arrogant and up himself. He’s very much not.

I give you Phil Foden , Hudson Odoi and Jordan Sacho who were all mentioned in the same breath as mgw and have all kicked on. He hasn't.

So because he has not done as well as one of the best teenage footballers right now ('Jordan' Sancho) he is a failure? Come on.
Also to be contrary but have Hudson-Odoi and Foden been that impressive? Hype about both of them is immense which plays a massive part in our perceptions. I am not denying their ability and potential, but to use those two as a stick to beat MGW with is ridiculous, they are hardly light years ahead. Foden especially has had all his gametime in a much stronger team and usually in much more low-pressure games/situations.

Is this World Cup winner MGW or another one? How many World Cup winners medals did you have aged 19?

Hudson Odoi is class, but neither have him or MGW got any PL goals to their name- but one of them is on 100k+ a week

Sancho was actually already in the Dortmund team then. He only played the first few games of the tournament because they wanted him back to play.

Nothing has really changed with him, he was a first choice player for a top Bundesliga team then and he is now.

For the record MGW has started 9 league games in his entire career.

Centre mid is a harder position to get starts in than than the wing or striker, and despite his long injury, he’s played nearly as many minutes as Phil Foden this season.

He has huge potential, and will be an excellent player for us as he keeps developing.

That's not what I said and you know it. He has not performed in his ten appearances this season. He needs to if given the chance. Just like Foden Hudson and Sacho have. Oh and he is twenty this month. The same age as Neves was when he joined us so I repeat mgw needs to step up if or when he is given the chance.

OK where is he in midfield starting positions. Behind moutinho Neves, Dendonker and Saiss. In a squad of 20. Nuno doesn't believe and so far nor do I

This isn't an anti mgw post. Its just reality. He has done little in the last 18 months to justify the sports writers general view that he was next for an England call up , something that his aforementioned team mates from the u17 have managed.

Hudson-Odoi has done nothing this season. Foden barely gets a kick at City. Sancho has been a regular at Dortmund for well over a season now. I've seen some shit said about MGW but calling him out for not performing like Jadon Sancho is something else

Out of interest, how many of that U17 team are now regular starters in the Prem or elsewhere?

Google tells me Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea has played in 25 games for Charlton with 6 goals and Burnley are interested in him.

I'd never heard of him until 5 minutes ago.

Regardless of what his peers have done. He’s not looked great this year, doesn’t seem to have improved at all since he first came into the team.

He’s got zero pace, his touch has been poor and his decision making worse. He’s also very weak. Obviously a couple of those elements can improve, and some players develop at different rates, but If I didn’t know any better I wouldn’t look at him and think he was going to develop into a top level footballer.

Currently lacks the all round game to play CM and shooting/ finishing and decision making isn’t remotely good enough to play as a 10. Unless you want your 10 to not assist or score.

At the start of the 20/21 season, he will be older than when Neves joined. Would you anticipate him joining a championship team and bossing the league? I certainly wouldn’t.

Foden part of man city squad of close to 30 established internationals

Mgw part of the team that used the fewest players in 36 games this season yet can't get a starting place prior to injury. It says plenty.
