New - The things that really annoy you

It's really hard not to generalise. I travel a lot, and generally hate every place I visit for the first time. I don't understand the culture, the customs and so on. Even mundane stuff like going to a bar and paying drink by drink versus a tab at the end. Little stuff, but it adds up. But on my...

Well, yes. Anyone can make the case that they should live in the UK. What's your alternative?

We do control who comes in. Everyone gets assessed, either for a visa, or for asylum. If you don't qualify you get deported.

Americans. I appreciate this is a sweeping generalisation, but I'm currently in a hotel bar in Romania. It's a nice bar. Understated. Classy, even. There's a group of twelve of them drowning out every conversation for everyone else. One of them just shouted 'I played soccer in college in 1984...

People akin to Hitler never seem like Hitler. That's how they get elected in the first place.

90% of the UK is rural, and we have 70 million people. So, 50k asylum seekers a year isn't going to make any difference at all.

As many as want to apply. We have obligations under international law. If we ever get to the point where the numbers are putting us under pressure then sure, let's reassess. But there's no sign we're even close to that point.

108,000 people claimed asylum in the UK last year. The stats are really easy to find - I dont know while people just make up any old bollocks and think they can get away with it...

Only about 50% of asylum claims are accepted, so no, its not just 'accept them all as their life back home was shit'

    Keir Starmer at it again..

Also, Burnham has been on maneuvers since 2015. He's always there to tell the membership what they want to hear. He was an arch Blairite, then when Jezza was in power he became the worlds biggest socialist. Ive seen puddles with greater depth.

    Trump

There's no simple solutions. America is broken. And no proposed solution can happen in a nation where 50% oppose the other 50%. You almost need the non batshit centrist majority to say 'Well give you the house and the senate and the presidency. Fuck up and we'll vote as a bloc for the other...

    Keir Starmer at it again..

A long time. The pertinent point is were they chums once Epsteins crimes were revealed - which im not 100% sure on. Mandelson seemed to claim that he wasnt sufficiently aware of the severity of Epsteins offences. Which seems unlikely at best.

    Keir Starmer at it again..

Not really - the first time was a fairly niche point around reporting a loan from a friend, and the second time he was exonerated (post resignation). By the standards of subsequent administrations these werent resigning matters.

    Israel-Palestine

Sure, but saying something must be done is predicated on that 'something' actually making a difference. The only path to peace involves removing Hamas and Likud from power. So any efforts should be directed towards those twin goals.

Also, this framing....https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx25711r8jxo 'Israels goals' is an amorphous concept. The attack meets Likuds goals, namely permanent war. And that's the only goal that Likud care about.

What would you have us do? Carpet bomb Tel Aviv? Regime change (on both sides) is the only thing that will change things.
