It was like everyone else challenging for promotion had a bad slump at the same time - Reading really fell away after they beat us in late January.
2009 contrasted with the free-wheeling goals and excitement of 2008 where Wolves tended to grind out results, especially from March onwards.
Today’s update:
2008/09 Season (50 matches)
Championship = 1st (Champions - Promoted to the Premier League).
FA Cup = 4th Round.
League Cup = 2nd Round.
Top Goalscorer = Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (25).
Fans' Player Of The Season = Kevin Foley.
Players' Player Of The Season = Sylvan Ebanks-Blake...
One final nomination from me - Robbie Dennison Wolves 2-2 WBA (Division 2 - 6/4/1991).
Given we'll have at least 43 goals to chose from, can anybody let me know that in creating a post with a poll you can have 43+ selections ?
You're probably right re Mick being a bit fortunate - I reckon the signing of SEB and his instant impact in terms of goals, results and general improvement in performance may have saved Mick.
That's actually a very good comparison.
Both started well (well it took eight games for GON to look promising) but eventually the deck of cards fell apart for both of them.
We'd have probably been relegated with Solbakken - Saunders made sure sure of it - but having just reviewed the season in...
Spot on ! ! !
I'll be releasing season 2009/10 in 6 days time so I've been viewing and rewatching the games recently and it wasn't a great season in terms of exciting play and thrilling games, but Mick knew how to grind out results with the squad he had playing 4-5-1.
It meant sacrificing SEB...

Top Goalscorer = Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (12).

The close season saw businessman Steve Morgan take control of the club for a nominal...
Yes he's one the list - next one I'll actually compile will be SEB, just haven't got around to editing it yet.
So in the planning stage:
SEB
Dean Sturridge
Alex Rae (ie like Paul Birch pretty much only scored top goals)
Paul Birch
However, the next compilation release will be the result from...
I'm not grateful to Fosun - I'm forever grateful to Nuno.
Given the track record of Fosun's ownership of Wolves, I'm of the opinion they lucked out in appointing Nuno and his special ability to galvanise his squad.
Nothing before or since Nuno suggest they have a clue how to properly run a...
With the recent love-in for Paul Birch, we're now up to 41 nominations. I'm also thinking down the track of doing a goals compilation for Paul Birch given the high number of quality goals he scored for Wolves - 19 goals in total.
I'll give it another 5-6 days (after the dust settles with the...
