The key for tonight was to see if the team were playing for each other and the manager, and they did in spades.
Every player beside Sa gets a lot of credit for me. Cunha, Gomes, Nunes and Lemina at the top of that list, RAN and then a ways off Sarabia at the other.
Sa actually looked more...
Like some others have said and aside from how we got here, I have no issue with GON as far as panic recruitment goes. If it has to be a panic I'd rather have the option who was a success (relatively speaking) at his last club, in the same league we are in only a summer ago.
Will save my...
The worst part of this is watching their forwards (who include MGW, who we never bothered to play in his favoured position for any length of time) playing like they've been together for years, compared to us who've not seen that kind of understanding for at least 3 years. Why is that?
Very poor from Raul, Mout, Sarabia, Pod, Nunes and Adama tonight. Basically our entire front line. Looked like we were in it to win until they attacked for the first time and we looked totally rattled. If you'd have asked me then I'd have said it would be the defence to let us down.
But then...
I'm not hitting the panic button yet. It's the first game of the season and the first prem game with the new formation. The formation will take some adjusting to and until it's a proven flop then there's still the chance our threadbare squad will stay fit enough to improve and be competitive...
Great first half, Everton were all over the shop and we punished them. Great to see the snappy passing from the first three games on display again. RAN had possibly his best game for us, especially defensively. There were times in the second half where he was straight in to second and third...
Not even sure we deserved that one point by the end. Offered nothing but last ditch defending for the whole second half. Really concerning how little connection there seems to be between our forward players.
We're the better team and we can win this. Utterly ridiculous goal to concede and Trincao should have scored (although it was a bit of bad luck, at least it wasn't the kind of shocking miss weve got in us), but all things considered I'm backing us to win this in the second half.
The thing is, first three games Bruno had us playing great, but our comical inability to score has obviously shot our confidence and now that's pushed us back to our whole build up play being poor, instead of just our shooting. His ideas can clearly work but it's hard to know what to do when...
