It has always worked very well on the European/international stage, it's here where they make an utter Horlicks of it. The fast, semi-automated offside decisions with no wonky lines and countless slow motion replays were most welcome

It was better. But it's easy to say that when you aren't invested in either of the teams and there weren't any subjective decisions?

No, it was better

We're not invested in PL games that don't involve Wolves but still see VAR as shit

Let's see how it goes throughout the tournament but since the 2018 World Cup VAR has been far less clunky than the PL version

There was nothing tough yesterday.

Penalty wasn't a penalty
Foul was a shocker

But when the ref went to the screen, he had the best clip available and made his decision quickly.

Offside was very quick at being called.

Reporters were also saying the info on the screens for the fans was better.

....

Need to see a Wolves situation though to be happy with it....Will they go looking for fouls (Cunha style) and how does the subjective offside like the one v West Ham work

The offside wasn't really that marginal, pretty easy to see that was off so probably wouldn't have taken long even with the shit system. Will be more interested when it a really tight call.

It's almost like our officials are complete shit
There's no doubt the real problem is the PGMOL, not VAR itself, but as long as we have those incompetent/corrupt arseholes in charge of officiating VAR is worthless. And it is easier to get rid of VAR than replace dozens of useless officials. Ideally you'd keep VAR and have it run by people who knew what the fuck they were doing.

If I were the head of the PL, I'd ask UEFA to supply the officials until the PGMOL can be replaced.

Absolutely. At the very least you'd eliminate the cosy familiarity that the refs have with the players from the big teams. What you want is the officials to referee every team with the same impartiality. You do not get that with PGMOL.

How they going to fit “Hwang kicks ball, pulls out of challenge, Schar kicks him and falls to the floor, Penalty given for absolutely no reason “
" Decision: Penalty. Don't ask us for clarity"

The editor in me has an eye twitching at the redundant inclusion of "player" in there (as opposed to what?), but yes such a bleedingly obvious improvement it's hard to believe it isn't already happening.
